Privacy Policy
The short version: we do not sell personal information, we do not run advertising trackers, and if you want your data or your business listing gone, one email to privacy@handyranking.com does it.
HandyRanking.com is operated by HandyRanking, which is responsible for the information described below.
Information you hand us
When you claim a listing, ask for a quote, sign up for job matching, or buy a certification exam, you give us what that form asks for: your name, email, phone number, the city you are in, and the business or project details relevant to the request. Claiming a listing also means uploading the material you want shown — a description, a logo, trades, hours.
If you email, call or text us, we keep a record of the exchange so the next person who picks it up has the context.
Information we gathered without asking you
This deserves its own heading, because it is how most listings on this site came to exist.
The majority of profiles here were compiled from business information already published publicly — trading name, phone number, service area, opening hours, and the customer ratings a business has accumulated on public mapping services. No owner was contacted first and no owner paid to be included.
If that is your business and you would rather not appear, say so and we will take it down. Bear in mind the trade-off: removal also removes you from every customer who would have found you through the directory.
Information collected automatically
Ordinary server and analytics data: browser and device type, pages viewed, referring page, timestamps, and your IP address, which we hash before storing and use only for spam and fraud control. We do not operate advertising cookies or sell audience data to ad networks.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this site, such as which pages are viewed and when someone taps a phone number or sends a form. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information like pages visited, device and browser type, and approximate location. It does not receive what you type into our forms. Learn how Google uses this data at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and opt out with Google’s browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
What we do with it
Run the site and improve it. Answer you. Process listing claims and certification purchases. Send transactional notices such as a claim approval or an exam result. Route a quote request to the pro it was meant for. Catch spam and fraud. Meet legal obligations. Send marketing only where you have consented, or to a business contact detail the business itself published for that purpose.
Who else sees it
Suppliers who run parts of the service for us — hosting, email and SMS delivery, payment processing, automated moderation. They are contractually confined to doing that work and nothing else.
If you submit a quote request, the handyman it is routed to receives your name, contact details, property location and description of the work. They cannot do the job otherwise.
Anyone we are legally compelled to disclose to, or where disclosure is needed to protect someone’s safety or our own rights.
That is the complete list. We do not sell personal information.
What you can ask us to do
Depending on where you live you may be entitled to see the information we hold on you, have it corrected, have it deleted, take it elsewhere in a portable form, or stop receiving marketing. California residents have further rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what is collected and to demand deletion.
Email privacy@handyranking.com and say which one you want. We do not require a particular form of words.
How long we hold things
Only as long as the service or the law requires. Correspondence is generally kept for four years; hashed IP addresses attached to form submissions for one year, for fraud control.
Keeping it safe, and who this site is for
Connections are encrypted, credentials are stored encrypted, and access is restricted to people who need it. No system is impossible to breach and we will not claim otherwise.
HandyRanking is built for adults hiring or performing home repair work. It is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, tell us and it will be removed.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page moves.
