The directory for people who fix houses.
HandyRanking lists {len(handymen)} independent handymen and home repair businesses across {len(cities)} cities in {state_count} state{'s' if state_count != 1 else ''} — no franchises, no gig marketplaces, no lead-resellers.
Independents only
This is the rule the whole directory is built on.
Search “handyman near me” today and the first screen is national franchises and gig-app marketplaces bidding for the click. Behind most of those results is a call center and a dispatch algorithm, not the person who will actually show up at your door.
HandyRanking filters those out on purpose. National franchise brands, big-box installation arms, and lead-generation marketplaces are excluded from this directory by policy. What is left is the independent operator — the one whose name is on the truck and who answers their own phone.
Where these listings come from
Two sources, and we label which is which.
Public business information
Most listings are compiled from publicly available business profiles — name, phone, service area, and the customer ratings those businesses have already earned. Nobody paid to be included and nobody paid for placement.
Owner-submitted profiles
Business owners can add their business or claim an existing listing to add photos, a description, services, and hours. Claimed listings carry a verified badge so you know the owner stands behind what is on the page.
Many handymen are service-area businesses with no public street address — that is normal in this trade. Those listings say “Serves the [City] area” rather than showing an address they never published.
What it costs
For homeowners
Nothing. Browsing, searching, reading the project cost guides, and calling a business directly are all free. We do not sell your contact details, and calling a listing connects you to that business, not to us.
For handymen
Listings and claims are free. The training tracks are free with no account required. The optional paid product is HandyRanking Certification — an exam-based credential that proves trade knowledge and ranks certified pros higher in the directory.
What we are not
HandyRanking does not employ the businesses listed here, does not supervise their work, and does not guarantee it. We are a directory, not a contractor. Verify licensing and insurance for your state, get the scope in writing, and use the cost guides on this site to sanity-check the quote before you agree to it.
HandyRanking Certification is an independent credential issued by us. It is not a government license and is not a substitute for one.
